A Writer’s Reading List

A writer or storyteller will always have a bookshelf that tells a story of its own.

The books that a writer reads not only tells them a story, but it is also a symbol of hope that the text that you hold in your hand was one day a focused writer like you, a writer with another book in their hand.

And so on.

I neglected reading for many years, but it is an essential part of my writing.

Like letting the bread rise for a baker – reading to a writer is that slow settling in of other written worlds.

Here goes with my current bookshelf and the books that have inspired me to write, live, create and be a better person.

BOOK HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH

CONSPIRACY OF FOOLS: A TRUE STORY

Beasts, monsters, many fools and even a hero in this thrilling read about the rise and fall of the energy giant Enron.

Honestly, this 800 word brick of a book had me ditching assignments, putting off finishing my website and missing hours of sunshine outside. Unstoppable!

If you’re interested in narrative nonfiction, as I am, this is one you must read. The details, the voice, the characters and their dramatic irony, the structure all make for sumptuous, moor-ish reading.
